Watch: New trailer for Outlander Season 6

“You helped pull me back from the darkness. You were always with me.” That’s the sound of Outlander returning for its sixth season – and a new trailer gives us a closer look at what’s in store.
It picks up shortly after from traumatising events that took place at the end of Season 5, as threat of the Revolutionary War looms over Fraser’s Ridge and Claire and Jamie must choose what is best for their family.
Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task, particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina – and perhaps most significantly – during a period of dramatic political upheaval. The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which – as Claire knows all too well – is unwittingly marching towards Revolution. Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge. They must now defend this home – established on land granted to them by the Crown – not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care. For the Frasers and their immediate family, “home” is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives.
Based on A Breath of Snow and Ashes, the sixth entry in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series, Season 6 will premiere on 6th March with an extended episode, followed by new episodes weekly. The new season will be available exclusively on STARZPLAY in the UK.
Trailer: Outlander Season 6 heads to STARZPLAY in 2022

“It’s almost here…” That’s the sound of Outlander returning for Season 6 in 2022 – and when it comes back to our screens, it’ll have a new UK home on STARZPLAY.
The time-travelling drama, based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series, follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married WW11 combat nurse from 1945 who mysteriously falls back in time to 1743 where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world and her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited that spans decades.
Seasons 1 to 5 premiered on Amazon Prime Video in the UK, following a deal between Amazon and STARZ. Now, though, the show is set for a homecoming of sorts, as STARZ’s own streaming service, STARZPLAY, prepares to release the series exclusively in the UK.
Season 6 is based on material from the sixth book in the Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes – and a seventh season has already been greenlit, based on the penultimate book in the series.
The sixth season will continue Claire and Jamie’s fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. For the Frasers and their immediate family, “home” is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives. If Season 4 asked “what is home?” and Season 5 asked “what are you willing to do to protect your home?” then Season 6 explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created: when you become an outsider, or an outlander, marginalised and rejected.
There’s no confirmed air date beyond “early 2022” just yet, but we do have our first teaser trailer and poster to give us a taste of what’s to coming – both of which were unveiled today at the New York Comic Con by the cast and creators.
Outlander Season 6 begins production
13th February 2021
Production is officially underway on Season 6 of Outlander.
Season 5, based on The Fiery Cross, the fifth of nine books in Diana’s series, continued the Fraser family’s adventures, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. While that featured some elements of the sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, that book will primarily be the source for Season 6. It will follow the Frasers through the years running up to the Revolutionary War.
The book is set in 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, with the long fuse of rebellion already lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest. With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence — with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie’s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future.
Season 6 will comprise 12 episodes and was originally set to begin production in May 2020. Now, after a long delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, the show is officially back in production. Exec-producer Matthew B Roberts told Elle this week: “We had to figure out how to make sure we tested everybody a million times before they walked onto set and keep that bubble as safe as possible.”
