NextUp is bringing two Fringe festival favourites to its stand-up line-up this week, with the arrival of specials from Tom Stade and Joseph Morpurgo.
Canadian comedian Tom Stade is one of the most original and exciting acts on the circuit and a regular at Edinburgh. He also enjoys regular international tours, multiple TV appearances and has just finished his most recent UK tour, playing to sell out venues across the country.
I Swear To, which was at the Fringe last year, was recorded live at The Leicester Square Theatre and focuses largely on the generational divide in society, as he and his stuff become vintage in an era of FaceTime and feelings.
Sarah Henley, co-founder of the stand-up comedy streaming platform, says: “We always love filming shows at The Leicester Square Theatre and Tom’s show definitely doesn’t disappoint. We’re big fans of Tom’s insightful, engaging style of comedy and are thrilled to have him on board.”
Stade is joined this week by three-time Chortle Award winning writer, comedian and improviser Joseph Morpurgo. Known to many as one of the founding members and co-creators of the much loved and revered Austentatious improv comedy group, Morpurgo’s special Hammerhead received acclaim at the 2017 Fringe. It comprises a spoof Q&A after his purported one-man adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, featuring him playing all 85 characters.
Filmed live at The Pleasance, Hammerhead also enjoyed a sell-out run at The Soho Theatre and won Best Comedy Show at The Brighton Fringe in 2018.
Henley adds: “The team here are huge fans of Joseph’s. This is a superbly silly and hilarious show and we’re so pleased to welcome him into the NextUp fold! Check out Austentatious live as well to see him alongside some of the best improvisers in the world.”
NextUp is available on iOS, Android, web, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Airplay, Roku and Amazon Channels. NextUp costs £4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
