NextUp launches live stand-up comedy festival for July
James R | On 01, Jul 2020
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival may not be taking place this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, but comedy fans can still get there live stand-up fix with a new comedy festival launching today on NextUp.
The subscription streaming platform, dedicated to showcasing up-and-coming stand-up comics, is hosting a festival with 31 acts performing over 31 days – one live show per night. The intimate shows will be streamed over Zoom in group calls, promising anything from storytelling and stand-up to games and off-kilter ramblings.
Highlights include musical maestro Abandoman (1st July), Channel 5 darling Stephen Bailey (2nd July), The Now Show veterans Sarah Keyworth (4th July) and Sindhu Vee (20th July), Taskmaster conteder Mark Watson (6th July), All Killa No Filla host Kiri Pritchard-McLean (11th July), Fringe favourites Josie Long (12th July) and Ivo Graham (22nd July), plus poet, actor and Alan Partridge sidekick Tim Key (19th July).
Tickets cost £9 each and each show is limited to 200 people – although a VIP Festival Pass for £77 will include a ticket for every gig, as well as access to any sold out show. A VIP Pass will also include a year’s worth of membership to NextUp, which normally costs £9.99 a month or £57.48 for 12 months.
The gigs (averaging 50 minutes each) will only be performed once, live, with the first half of most shows streaming on a delay via NextUp’s social media, but those with tickets will see the whole thing, and be able to interact if they choose. They kick off every night at 8pm UK time.
