Netflix subscribers watched more than 140 million hours of film and TV in 2017, reveals new research from the streaming giant. With over 600 Netflix Originals being released this year alone, we’ve learned how to launder money (Ozark) and profile serial killers (Mindhunter), start a wrestling team (GLOW) and other, less legal activities (Narcos) – and, once again, that Eleven is not to be messed with (Stranger Things).

Netflix has always been close-guarded about its viewing data, with the statistics it often releases based not on actual viewership data at all. This year, though, Netflix has revealed some genuine figures – and they make for interesting reading. According to the streaming giant, the UK’s most popular streaming day was Sunday 29th October – when, tellingly, we had an extra hour with daylight saving. It was also the day Stranger Things 2 arrived on our screens, with a lot of subscribers bingeing the whole serise in under 24 hours of its launch.

Top 10 Most-Devoured Shows

We Brits craved the extra drama this year by devouring (watching more than two hours per day) series such as Greenleaf and Riverdale and those series that put us in the heart of the action like The Mist and Shooter.

The average subscriber watches around 60 movies on Netflix a year. Topping that record is one member in the UK, who watched Bee Movie 357 times in 2017. No, we don’t know, either.
