Trailer: The Last Kingdom Season 3 returns this November

The Last Kingdom returns this November for a third season.
Adapted by BAFTA-nominated and RTS award-winning writer Stephen Butchard from Bernard Cornwell’s bestselling series of novels, the historical series is set in the year 872, when many of the separate kingdoms of what we now know as England have fallen to the invading Vikings, the great kingdom of Wessex has been left standing alone and defiant under the command of King Alfred the Great.
Against this turbulent backdrop lives our hero, Uhtred. Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is orphaned by the Vikings and then kidnapped and raised as one of their own – and is seeking to reclaim his birthright, his ancestral lands of Bebbanburg. First broadcast on BBC Two, Netflix boarded the show as a co-producer, but after two seasons, the series’ third run will air exclusively on Netflix. Now, we know when that will happen, with Season 3 set to premiere on Monday 19th November.
Season 3 picks up as the battle for the future of Wessex escalates as intrigues swirl around an ailing Alfred and Uhtred must decide where his loyalties lie. Here’s the trailer:

The Last Kingdom will return for a third season – exclusively on Netflix.
Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is orphaned by the Vikings and then kidnapped and raised as one of their own. Forced to choose between the country of his birth and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are ever tested. What is he – Saxon or Viking? On a quest to claim his birthright, Uhtred must tread a dangerous path between both sides if he is to play his part in the birth of a new nation and, ultimately, seek to recapture his ancestral lands.
A BBC Two series, Netflix boarded the programme as a co-producer, helping the show to return to Season 2. Set in the year 878, the second season saw fearless and instinctive warrior Uhtred continue his fight for his native land of Northumbria. Uhtred, having given his sword to King Alfred, despite his upbringing by the invading pagan Danes, embarked on his voyage north to reclaim his own fate: to recapture his ancestral lands of Bebbanburg.
Alexander Dreymon (American Horror Story) stars as Uhtred, alongside David Dawson (Peaky Blinders), Emily Cox (Homeland), Ian Hart (Boardwalk Empire) and Tobias Santelmann (Marcella). Season 2 saw them joined by new cast members including Thure Lindhardt (The Bridge), Millie Brady (Legend), Peter McDonald (Thirteen) and Richard Rankin (From Darkness).
Now, Dreymon has revealed that the show will return for a third season, with Netflix no longer a co-producer, but the exclusive home of the whole thing worldwide.
“ARSELINGS! Alexander Dreymon, your very own Uhtred son of Uhtred, has some exciting news for you… #TheLastKingdom season 3 is in production, and will be coming to Netflix worldwide later this year!” he announced on Twitter.
“As you can see, the rumours are true! I’m on the set of The Last Kingdom and season three is well underway. I think it’s going to be the best season yet,” he added.
The announcement follows a similar move by Netflix for Canadian sci-fi series Travelers, which will return for Season 3 as a fully-fledged Netflix original.
