“All motives always boil down to sex, money or revenge.” That’s the sound of Joe Goldberg playing detective in Season 4of You, and a new trailer gives us a closer look at the twisted new spin on the already twisted drama.
Based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, the psychological thriller follows a book shop owner who, in Season 1, used the hyper connectivity of today’s technology to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him – and strategically removed every obstacle, and person, in his way. After a notable repositioning of that premise in the subsequent two seasons, Season 4 picks up with Joe on the back foot, as someone else begins to target him.
We find Joe in London, where he has reinvented himself as a college professor named Jonathan. He’s joined by loyal art gallery director Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), outspoken literature major Nadia (Amy Leigh Hickman), irreverent author Rhys (Ed Speleers), wild aristocratic socialite Phoebe (Tilly Keeper) and her boyfriend, Adam (Lukas Gage), entrepreneur Sophie (Niccy Lin) and her introverted author brother Simon (Aidan Cheng), uber-privileged Oxford grad Gemma (Eve Austin), potty-mouthed former sportsman Connie (Dario Coates) and Nigerian princess/cryptocurrency aficionado Blessing (Ozioma Whenu).
Part 1 arrives on Netflix UK on 9th February, followed by Part 2 on 9th March. Here’s the new video:

You Season 4: Netflix announces release date and first details
24th September 2022
You will officially return to Netflix for Season 4 in 2023 – and it’ll be split into two parts.
Based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, the psychological thriller follows Joe Goldberg, a book shop owner who, in Season 1, used the hyper connectivity of today’s technology to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him – and strategically removes every obstacle, and person, in his way. Season 2 was loosely based on Kepnes’ second novel, Hidden Bodies, and saw Goldberg head to Los Angeles, where he met Love Quinn, played by Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Hill House). Season 3 saw Love and Joe attempt to live out a perfect domestic life in the suburbs.

Behind the camera, meanwhile, Badgley will also be making his directorial debut.

Charlotte Ritchie, Lukas Gage join You Season 4
25th March 2022
Charlotte Ritchie and Lukas Gage are both joining Netflix’s You-niverse for Season 4.
Season 3 will see Badgley and Pedretti return, along with Scott Speedman as Matthew, a CEO, husband and father, Travis Van Winkle as “master of self-optimisation” Cary, and Shalita Grant as momfluencer Sherry, plus Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Tati Gabrielle as librarian Marienne. And, next door, Michaela McManus as Joe’s married neighbour, Natalie, with whom he soon becomes obsessed.
Before that season even arrived on our screens, Netflix had already greenlit the show for a fourth season – and now, the latest potential victims of Joe Goldberg are lining up. Charlotte Ritchie, fresh from BBC’s Ghosts and Netflix’s Feel Good, will play Kate. She joins Lukas Gage as Adam, the warm, funny, and hard-partying son of a wealthy family who is famous for failing to meet their standards. But the one thing he did learn from his parents is to do whatever it takes to get what you want.
Netflix renews You for Season 4

You will be back on Netflix for Season 4.
Based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, the psychological thriller follows Joe, a book shop owner who, in Season 1, used the hyper connectivity of today’s technology to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him – and strategically removes every obstacle, and person, in his way. Season 3 will see Badgley and Pedretti return, along with Scott Speedman as Matthew, a CEO, husband and father, Travis Van Winkle as “master of self-optimisation” Cary, and Shalita Grant as momfluencer Sherry, plus Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Tati Gabrielle as librarian Marienne and Saffron Barrows, upped to a series regular, and Scott Michael Foster, a TV reporter and single dad with a controlling, calculating streak. And, next door, Michaela McManus as Joe’s married neighbour, Natalie, with whom he soon becomes obsessed.
Before we can see the fallout of that latest fixation, Netflix has already greenlit a fourth season of the drama.
“Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life. We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past 3 seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season 4,” said Sera Gamble, showrunner on the series.
Casting news will be available at a later date.
