Trailer: Travelers returns to Netflix for Season 3

“Isn’t that the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard?” That’s the sound of Netflix’s Travelers returning for a third season this December, and it’s bringing it with it a handy side order of knowing humour.
The time-travelling thriller stars Eric McCormack as FBI agent Grant MacLaren, who leads a team performing missions to save humanity from a terrible future. Many centuries into the distant ether, the Earth’s population has dwindled to almost nothing, but the survivors have discovered the key to time travel. And so a group enters the 21st century on a mission to avert disaster, at the risk of erasing themselves from history.
Created by Brad Wright (Stargate SG-1), the sci-fi series began as a co-production with Showcase in Canada, where it first aired before being released in other countries on Netflix. Shortly after its second season, though, Netflix became the exclusive home for the show worldwide, giving the green light to a third run as a fully-fledged Netflix original.
After two seasons of twisting plots, there’s a lot to catch up on, as Grant and the team try to undo the damage done by Traveler 001 in Season 2. But the new trailer for Season 3 does its best to welcome newcomers – and give them just enough heads-up to start binge-watching the first two seasons now. Season 3 lands on Friday 14th December. Here’s the trailer:

Netflix will be welcoming everyone back to the 21st this December, as Travelers returns for its third season.

“Intelligent, ambitious and well executed enough to pull its ideas off, Travelers is a fantastic piece of sci-fi that just keeps getting better,” we wrote in our review of the show.

Netflix renews Travelers for Season 3
16th March 2018
Netflix has renewed Travelers for a third season, with the show making the leap to a full Netflix original.
Created by Brad Wright (Stargate SG-1), it stars Eric McCormaack as FBI agent Grant MacLaren, who leads a team performing missions across time to save humanity from a terrible future. Many centuries into the distant ether, the Earth’s population has dwindled to almost nothing, but the survivors have discovered the key to time travel. And so a group enters the 21st century on a mission to avert disaster, at the risk of erasing themselves from history.
The sci-fi series began as a co-production with Showcase in Canada, where it first aired before being released in other countries on Netflix. Now, Netflix has become the exclusive home for the show, with a third season officially given the green light – only a few months after the second season debuted on the streaming service.
McCormack, who will also direct the Season 3 debut, confirmed the news in a statement: “Before I was Will Truman again, I was a Traveler. And I am so excited to be able to tell our fans, worldwide, that Brad Wright’s subtle and stunning sci-fi drama is back for a third season. I am so proud of this show, particularly that it’s all-Canadian. From our devoted Vancouver crew, to an uber-talented young cast who hail from Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Ontario, to my producing partners and our Toronto roots, Travelers is a series as Canadian in its creation, as it is global in scope. I am counting the days ‘til I return, not just as Special Agent Grant MacLaren, and as a producer, but as the director of the 3rd season premiere. Travelers will continue to be unwavering in its dedication to Canadian talent, and in its drive to be one of the strongest, most binged shows on Netflix.”
Travelers executive producers, Brad Wright and Carrie Mudd of Peacock Alley Entertainment, added: “Our partner Eric said it best. We’d like to add our gratitude to our viewers in Canada on Showcase – as well as the Corus and Sky Vision teams – for two extraordinary seasons. We are excited to start shooting Season 3 this March in Vancouver, and to continue the Travelers story for fans in Canada and around the world, only on Netflix.”
