Netflix renews The Rain for third and final season
21st June 2019
Netflix has renewed The Rain for a third season, and that season will also be its last.
The post-apocalyptic drama is created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen and Christian Potalivo and marked the first Danish original show for the streaming giant. The series is set in a world where a brutal virus has wiped out most of the population. The dystopian survival thriller follows two young siblings as they join a group of young survivors setting out to find out whether a new world has begun somewhere else. They hope that their father is somewhere out there with answers.
After proving popular globally, particularly in the US, UK, Brazil, France and Germany, Netflix swiftly announced it had renewed the show for a second season. That second run was met with a mixed response with our review saying that the series had lost sight of what made Season 1 so effective.
“At six episodes long, at least Season 2 is brief. But, in that time, it diverges from the show’s original premise so much that it hardly feels like the same series,” we wrote in our review.
Nonetheless, within a month of its return, The Rain has been forecast to fall a third time, with a final run to wrap up the story for good.
