The Kominsky Method returns for its third and final season this May – and a new trailer gives us a first look at the comedy’s farewell.
The series, created by Chuck Lorre, stars Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin as the once-famous actor Sandy Kominsky and his longtime agent, Norman Newlander, two friends tackling life’s curveballs as they navigate their later years in Los Angeles, a city that values youth and beauty. Season 2 saw the friends continue their journey, as Sandy met and bonded with his daughter’s new, older boyfriend (guest star Paul Reiser). Meanwhile, Norman reconnected with an old flame from his youth (guest star Jane Seymour).
Season 3, however, won’t see Arkin return, and the trailer gets that business over and one with immediately, as Norman’s funeral takes place – and paves the way for Douglas to reunite with Katherine Turner, who reprises her role as Ruth, his ex-wife.
You can see them in action on Friday 28th May, when Season 3 premieres on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:
Kathleen Turner returns for The Kominsky Method Season 3
18th October 2020
Kathleen Turner will return for The Kominsky Method’s third and final season.
With the show now returning for a third and final run, it has now been confirmed that Alan Arkin will not return, leaving Douglas’ Sandy on his own. But he won’t be entirely alone, with Kathleen Turner signing on to reprise her role as Ruth, Sandy’s ex-wife. The Romancing the Stone star reunited with Douglas in a guest appearance during Season 2. That will be expanded to a series regular role for Season 3.
Ruth is a skilled doctor and the mother of Sandy’s daughter Mindy. With her returning to the fold for the show’s farewell, you can expect their volatile relationship to form a key part of the programme’s tying up of narrative threads.
The Kominsky Method is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
Alan Arkin will not return to Netflix’s The Kominsky Method
26th September 2020
Alan Arkin will reportedly not return to Netflix’s The Kominsky Method for its final season.
Despite a mixed reception, the show won two Golden Globes with its first run, for Best Comedy and Best Actor (Douglas). It was promptly renewed for a second season, which saw the friends continue their journey, as Sandy met and bonded with his daughter’s new, older boyfriend (guest star Paul Reiser). Meanwhile, Norman reconnected with an old flame from his youth (guest star Jane Seymour).
Now, however, Deadline reports that when the third and final run begins on Netflix, Sandy will be bidding farewell without Norman by his side. Sources told Deadline that the decision was not a recent one, even though the Season 2 finale did not indicate that Norman would be departing, due to uncertainty over a potential SEason 3.
“The Kominsky Method has been a true passion project for me and it’s been an incredible experience to see the warm response from both audiences and critics. I’m excited to wrap up the story with this final chapter,” Lorre said in a statement when the renewal was confirmed last summer.
