Hemlock Grove Season 2 is coming to Netflix

“Hemlock Grove may be pure ham, but it’s more of a fine prosciutto than a lump of processed pork. It’s sleek, seductive stuff. Small town Gothic in slim fit jeans.”
That’s how we described Eli Roth’s original horror series, which was exclusively birthed into this world by Netflix.
They use different words. Words like “riveting” and “eerie” and “mystery”. We agree with the last part.
But something obviously went right with the bonkers terrible/great/trashy/amazing show because Netflix has announced that Hemlock Grove will return for a second season of another 10 episodes.
“The worldwide fan response to ‘Hemlock Grove’ was phenomenal,” says Eli Roth. “Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery, and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked.”
The show, based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, has picked up a new star player to boot: Executive Producer Charles H. Eglee, the guy behind Dexter, The Shield and The Walking Dead (which recently strolled onto LOVEFiLM Instant).
What is Hemlock Grove? The official synopsis goes something like:
Hemlock Grove is a gothic horror thriller which explores the strange happenings in a small Pennsylvania town. The show focuses on the unlikely friendship between the founding family’s young heir, Roman Godfrey, and the relative newcomer and outsider, Peter Rumancek. Each holds a monstrous secret that has been unleashed.
But really, it’s impossible to describe the sensation of watching the absurd almost-brilliant creation. Except to say that Famke Janssen is fantastic. She’s back for the next round – as are all the other cast members, including Bill Skarsgård and Dougray Scott.
“The actual plot feels almost inconsequential,” read our review. “A kind of springboard for lashings of teen sex, outrageous gore and increasingly random phantasmagoria.”
Eli Roth says: “Season One was just a warm up for what we have in store for season two. Get ready to be scared in ways you never expected.”
Oh, our giddy aunts.
The sophomore season of Hemlock Grove will premiere in 2014. We have no idea if that’s a good thing or not.
