“I’m Grace. And I’m Frankie. We make vibrators. Specifically designed for older women.”
That’s the sound of two women still feeling those good vibrations in their older years – and with the laughs, and other feelings, still going strong, it’s no surprise that they’re back for a third season. Yes, Grace and Frankie will be back on Netflix this month, with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda still on fine form.
The single-camera comedy, which is created by Marta Kauffman, Howard J. Morris, and Paula Weinstein of Friends, was the streaming giant’s first original project targeted at older viewers, not to mention a welcome rare leading role for older female actors. Netflix renews Grace and Frankie for third season
14th December 2015
Grace and Frankie has been renewed for a third season.
Netflix’s original series, which stars Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, premiered earlier this year, marking not only the streaming’s services first major attempt to woo older subscribers but also a rare leading role for female actors in Hollywood.
The show evidently struck a chord with viewers of a variety of ages, though: within two weeks of the series’ debut, it had already been renewed for a second run, partly thanks to a tweet from Miley Cyrus singing its praises. This week, acclaim continued to build with Lily Tomlin picking up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a TV Comedy Series – news that prompted the renewal of the show for a third run in 2017, before Season 2 has even aired.

“Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman and writer Howard J. Morris have created something quite spectacular in Grace and Frankie, which takes the notion of an odd couple sitcom and blends it with family drama,” we wrote in our review. “It’s a mix the likes of which Amazon’s Transparent honed wonderfully last year and Netflix’s new original series steps up to the bat with writing that matches the cast in wit, wisdom and nuance.”
The news broke on Twitter and marks another early renewal for Netflix, which has proven far more willing to re-commission its original series than a traditional TV network would: Orange Is the New Black, for example, has been renewed multiple times before its latest season has been released.
