“It has been said that competition is an opportunity for us to rise before our greatest challenges…” That’s the sound of Lady Whistledown returning tp Bridgerton, and a full trailer gives us a proper look at Season 2.
Created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), the series is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels, with Season 2 following the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). Sex Education’s Simone Ashley will co-star as Kate Sharma, a smart, headstrong young woman newly arrived in London who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included. When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate’s younger sister (Charithra Chandran), Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together…
What happens when duty is in conflict with the heart’s true desire? There is potential for a considerable scandal, indeed. See the scandal unfold when Season 2 premieres on Netflix on 25th March. Here’s the new video:

It’s only a matter of weeks until Bridgerton is back on our screens, and new images give us a fresh look at Season 2.
Created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), the series is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels, which each follow a different member of the Bridgerton family.
Season 1 followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she made her debut on Regency London’s competitive marriage market – and, after the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown cast aspersions on Daphne, teamed up with the desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) to pretend to be in a relationship.
Page will not return for Season 2 as the Duke of Hastings, with the focus shifting instead to the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). Regé-Jean Page will not return for Bridgerton Season 2
3rd April 2021
Regé-Jean Page will not return to Netflix for Season 2 of Bridgerton, Netflix and Shondaland have announced.
Created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), the series is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels and follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market – and, after the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne, teams up with the desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) to pretend to be in a relationship. Sparks fly and steamy drama ensues.
A record 82 million households watched Season 1 of Bridgerton in its first four weeks, and Page has become a veritable screen heartthrob since. His star has rocketed with a host of other projects on his plate and even a stint hosting Saturday Night Live under his belt. It’s perhaps no surprise, then, that he won’t be back on our screens as the Duke of Hastings.
“Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” a note from Lady Whistledown revealed on Twitter. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”
The news certainly didn’t come s a surprise to Page, who was told by Shondaland producers early on that he’d only be attached for one season – in the original novels, the character’s story is primarily limited to the first book.
“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end – give us a year,” Page recalled to Variety. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”
“I have nothing but excitement for Bridgerton continuing to steam train off and conquer the globe,” he added. “But there is also value in completing these arcs and sticking the landing.”
Season 2, as previously reported, will chart the love life of the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as he enters the marriage market. Sex Education’s Simone Ashley will co-star as Kate Sharma, a smart, headstrong young woman newly arrived in London who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included. Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne Bridgerton will still appear.

Netflix renews Bridgerton for Season 2
21st January 2021
Netflix has renewed Bridgerton for a second season.
Created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), the series is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels and follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne.
Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.
The series co-stars Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey and Luke Newton, with Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.
“Be prepared to swoon over this saucy, sumptuous a seriously fun romantic romp,” we wrote in our review.
Since its debut, Netflix has said that the show is forecast to have been watched by 63 million households in its first 28 days on Netflix – making it one of the streamer’s most watched new TV shows to date. It’s perhaps no surprise, then, that Netflix has ordered a second season.
“The ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and so it is my honor to impart to you: Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season. I do hope you have stored a bottle of ratafia for this most delightful occasion,” wrote Lady Whistledown in a playful announcement of the renewal.
“The incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in the Spring of 2021. This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season. I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities.
“However, gentle reader, before you set the comments section alight with requests for more sordid details, know that I am disinclined to report on the particulars at this time. Patience, after all, is a virtue.”
