Netflix cancels V Wars after one season
James R | On 01, Apr 2020
Netflix has put a stake through V Wars after only one season.
Based on Jonathan Maberry’s 2012 book – a collection of short stories that chronicle the first Vampire War – the drama follows Dr. Luther Swann, whose best friend, Michael Fayne, is transformed by a strange disease into a predator with a taste for humans. As the pandemic spreads, society fractures into factions putting normal people against the growing army of vampires. As Swann races to understand what’s going on, Fayne rises through the ranks of the fanged underworld.
The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder stars as Swann, with Arrow’s Adrian Holmes co-starring as Fayne.
Despite the popular genre players adding kudos to the horror project, though, Netflix has already decided to cancel it, just a few months after its debut. The series joins fellow genre series October Faction in being axed following their freshman runs.

Netflix recruits vampire veteran for V-Wars
17th April 2018
Netflix is getting ready for the outbreak of the V-Wars, as a new vampire series lands at the streaming service.
Based on Jonathan Maberry’s 2012 book – a collection of short stories that chronicle the first Vampire War – the series follows Dr.
The series is produced by IDW Entertainment and High Park Entertainment, with Brad Turner (24, Stargate Atlantis) directing the pilot episode. Turner will executive produce, alongside High Park’s Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden, IDW’s David Ozer and Ted, and James Gibb for Marada Pictures. William Laurin and Glenn Davis will serve as showrunners.
The project has already signed up one veteran recruit, with The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder set to play Swann. He will also step behind the camera to direct, after helming multiple episodes in Diaires’ seventh and eighth seasons.
“We could not have dreamed of a better choice than Ian Somerhalder to bring his keen understanding of this genre from his years of starring in The Vampire Diaries to lead the cast of V-Wars as Dr. Luther Swann and to be a creative force on this series, as well as to serve as a director this season,” said Ozer, President of IDW Entertainment, in a statement. “We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Jonathan Maberry created to audiences worldwide.”
