Netflix picks up UK rights for Reign

Netflix has picked up the exclusive UK rights for Reign, with the third season set to arrive this month.
The CBS period drama, by Stephanie Sengupta and Laurie McCarthy, follows the rise of Mary Queen of Scots, starting from her arrival in France as a teenager to wed Prince Francis. Adelaide Kane stars as Mary, alongside Megan Follows as Queen Catherine and Toby Regbo as Francis.
The series is broadcast on The CW in the US, but despite the popularity of shows such as The Tudors and Wolf Hall, has failed to find a UK outlet until now. Seasons 1 and 2 of Reign arrived on the subscription VOD service at the beginning of October 2015 and, as we have announced in our monthly preview of what’s coming soon to Netflix UK, Season 3 of Reign will premiere on the site from Saturday 10th October – with new episodes being released every Saturday within 24 hours of their US broadcast.
The programme is the latest in a string of shows to land exclusively on Netflix UK, following a deal between the streaming giant and the American broadcaster: last month, Netflix nabbed the global subscription rights to both Jane the Virgin and Zoo. It also follows the acquisition of another high-profile US show not picked up for UK broadcast – MTV’s Scream TV series – the news of which VODzilla.co exclusively reported in September 2015.
