Regina King and David E Kelley are teaming up to bring A Man in Full to the screen.
The 2018 novel by Tom Wolfe follows Charlie Croker, a once-fabled college football star who is now a late-middle-aged Atlanta real estate entrepreneur-turned conglomerate king. His expansionist ambitions and outsize ego have at last hit up against reality. Charlie has a 28,000 acre quail shooting plantation, a young and demanding second wife and a half-empty downtown tower with a staggering load of debt.
Netflix has given a straight-to-series order of six episodes for the adaptation. David E Kelley will be the showrunner and writer of the project. He will exec-produce alongside Regina King, who will direct the series.
The project is part of King’s first-look deal with Netflix via her Royal Ties banner, and comes just as King stars in The Harder They Fall, released by Netflix last week. It also marks a reunion between Kelley and Netflix, with the Ally McBeal creator previously working on Lincoln Lawyer and Anatomy of a Scandal for the streamer. King made her directorial debut with One Night in Miami…, which was released by Amazon Studios last year.
