Netflix is now available on YouView.
We reported last month that the video on-demand service would soon be added to the set top box. Today, YouView confirmed that the subscription service has officially joined the line-up of apps, offering customers a new way to access its catalogue of film, TV shows and stand-up comedy.
Existing Netflix subscribers can login to the player by entering their Netflix username and password using the YouView remote control.
YouView’s signature feature has always been its easy-to-use TV guide, which seamlessly combines live and catch up programmes. Now in over 1 million UK homes, YouView continues to target a long term goal of 10 million connected homes, which is expected to get a helping hand from the new Netflix partnership.
That merge of live and VOD content, meanwhile, has been picked up by other TV providers, such as Sky. Impressively, though, the titles available on Netflix can also be discovered via YouView’s seamlessly integrated search function, making it easy to find the TV and movies you want.
YouView now offers all the major UK on-demand players which include BBC iPlayer, 4OD, ITV Player, Demand 5, Milkshake, UKTV, Quest from Discovery, NOW from Sky and Sky Store.
Richard Halton, CEO, YouView says: “Netflix is a brilliant addition to our already impressive line-up of TV programming. We are really excited about Netflix and giving YouView audiences even more choice.”
Bill Holmes, head of business development at Netflix, adds: “We’re very excited to bring the Netflix app to YouView boxes and hope to make it even easier for Netflix members with YouView to watch Netflix on their television sets.”
Netflix is available today on YouView from BT set-top boxes and Humax set-top boxes purchased from a retailer. BT TV customers, who sign up for Netflix alongside BT broadband and TV offers, will have the added convenience of paying for Netflix via their BT bill, a world first for Netflix.
Non-BT customers, though, will have to wait to get their Netflix fix: YouView from TalkTalk set-top boxes and Huawei retail set-top boxes will receive the new update early in 2015. TalkTalk customers who would like to be amongst the first to enjoy Netflix on YouView from TalkTalk can pre-register at talktalk.co.uk/netflix
