Netflix cheers on Christopher Guest’s Mascots
12th August 2015
Netflix will cheer on Christopher Guest’s Mascots.
The movie, from the This Is Spinal Tap star, continues Guest’s career of mockumentary comedy, with films such as A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration under his spoof belt. Mascots, which will premiere in 2016, appears to be most similar to Best in Show, which follows a fictional dog show.
The Netflix film is set at the 8th World Mascot Association Championships, where “a group of unusual men and women, with big heads and furry suits, complete to win the prestigious gold fluffy award and be crowned best mascot in the world”.
The VOD service announced the show on Twitter, promising “drama, intrigue and occasional excitement”. It joins an increasingly crowded slate of original feature films, as Netflix enters the movie business with its eyes on awards season. Beasts of No Nation, starring Idris Elba, will be the streaming giant’s first original feature, released in US cinemas in October on the same day as it hits Netflix worldwide.
No other Christopher Guest titles are currently on Netflix UK.
