Netflix and Chelsea Handler to “revolutionise” the talk show
Outspoken Comedian Signs Groundbreaking Multi-tiered Deal
To Include a Stand Up Special Premiering Exclusively 10th October,
Four Docu-comedy Specials Arriving in 2015 and, in 2016, the First-Ever
Talk Show for the Global On-Demand Generation
Chelsea Handler will team up with Netflix to create an all-new talk show for the on-demand generation.
Beginning in early 2016, the show will debut simultaneously in all Netflix territories and feature an updated format that encompasses Chelsea’s “unfiltered” opinions on topical entertainment and cultural issues, as well as guest interviews.
Before that, the outspoken Comedian’s first one hour stand-up comedy performance based on her sold-out tour, Uganda Be Kidding Me Live, will premiere on 10th October. Then, in 2015, Chelsea will create four new docu-comedy specials exclusively for Netflix featuring her efforts to gain a better understanding on a variety of subjects, from NASCAR and politics to Silicon Valley and the NBA.
Handler will produce the stand-up special, docu-comedy specials and new talk show along with her partners in Borderline Amazing, Tom Brunelle and Brad Wollack.
“If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested. I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move. I’m more excited than I’ve been in a while, and the team at Netflix is the most forward-thinking,” says Chelsea.
“The internet has disrupted many of the conventions of traditional television and together with Chelsea Handler, Netflix is looking forward to reimagining the late night talk show for the on-demand generation,” adds Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos, “starting with the late night part…”
