This July, MUBI serves up the latest offering from Yann Gonzalez (You And The Night), and a new trailer gives us a glimpse of the filmmaker’s twisted mind.
Knife + Heart is an erotically kitsch love letter to European giallo, American grindhouse cinema, and 70s gay pornography. The film stars Vanessa Paradis and Nicolas Maury and is shot on 35mm and fueled by a throbbing soundtrack from M83.
Following the dramatic breakdown of her relationship with her girlfriend, gay porn producer Anne (Vanessa Paradis) launches herself into her latest and most ambitious film production. But as shooting gets underway, one of her stars is brutally murdered. Soon it becomes terrifyingly clear that a homicidal maniac is intent on bumping off the cast, one by one.
Set in 1970s Paris and dripping with style and eye-popping visual fetishism, the movie dances between the work of Dario Argento, Brian de Palma, Kenneth Anger and William Friedkin’s Cruising. It’s released in cinemas and on MUBI’s subscription service on Friday 5th July. Here’s the new video:
