Apple TV+ is teaming up with Neil Cross for new drama Mosquito Coast.
The Luther creator has been given the green light by the tech giant’s subscription streaming service to adapt the 1981 novel of the same name by Paul Theroux.
The series will see a rather fitting actor take the lead: Justin Theroux, star of The Leftovers and Paul’s nephew. Theroux is no stranger to the streaming world, having also starred in Netflix’s Maniac and voiced Tramp in Disney+’s upcoming Lady & the Tramp reboot.
He will play an idealist who uproots his family to Latin America.
Cross is showrunner and has written the first episode with Tom Bissell. Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will executive produce and direct the first episode, as well as several others throughout the season.
The series is produced by Fremantle and Veritas Entertainment Group, with Alan Gasmer, Peter Jaysen and Bob Bookman executive producing, along with Ed McDonnell.
