“She’s wild. She be the ruin of this family.” That’s the sound of a modern take on Emily Dickinson, as Apple TV+ drops the first trailer for its new biopic.
Created by Alena Smith, Dickinson audaciously explores the constraints of society, gender, and family from the perspective of rebellious young poet Emily Dickinson. Starring Hailee Steinfeld as Dickinson, the coming-of-age story promises wild nights and dark comedy as it brings a fresh look to literary history.
Steinfeld is joined by Jane Krakowski as Mrs. Dickinson, Emily’s mother, Toby Huss as Edward, her father, Anna Baryshnikov (Manchester by the Sea) as Lavinia, her sister, Adrian Blake Enscoe (Seeds, We Don’t Belong Here) as Austin, her brother, and Ella Hunt (Anna and the Apocalypse, Cold Feet) as Sue Gilbert, her best friend.
You’ll be able to see the ensemble in action on 1st November, when Apple TV+ launches worldwide. The subscription streaming service will cost £4.99 a month, with a seven-day free trial – and one year’s free subscription for anyone who buys a new Apple device. Apple TV+ will be available through the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV, as well as select smart TVs, streaming boxes and streaming sticks.
Until then, here’s the trailer, soundtracked by Carnage’ I Like Tuh feat. iLoveMakonnen:
Toby Huss joins Apple’s Emily Dickinson series
28th September 2018
Tony Huss has joined the cast of Apple’s Emily Dickinson series.
The half-hour comedy, which is based on the life of the 1800s writer, brings a modern sensibly and tone to the period. He is joined by Anna Baryshnikov (Manchester by the Sea) as Lavinia Dickinson, Emily’s sister, Adrian Blake Enscoe (Seeds, We Don’t Belong Here) as Austin Dickinson, Emily’s brother, and Ella Hunt (Anna and the Apocalypse, Cold Feet) as Sue Gilbert, Emily’s best friend.

Hailee Steinfeld and Jane Krakowski to star in Apple’s Emily Dickinson series
4th September 2018
Hailee Steinfeld and Jane Krakowski will co-star in Dickinson, Apple’s new original series about the poet Emily Dickinson.
The half-hour comedy, which is based on the life of the 1800s writer, brings a modern sensibly and tone to the period. Written by Alena Smith, it will explore the constraints of society, gender and family from the perspective of a writer who doesn’t fit in.
Steinfeld will play Emily, with Krakowski co-starring as Mrs. Dickinson, Emily’s mother. Steinfeld, who broke through with her leading turn in the Coen brothers’ True Grit, has since gone on to impress in the Pitch Perfect franchise and teen comedy The Edge of Seventeen, while Krakowski needs no introduction to TV comedy fans, after roles in 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
The project, which jails from Paul Lee’s indie studio wiip, is exec produced by Smith and Darlene Hunt, plus Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta for Sugar23 Productions and Alex Goldstone for Anonymous Content. David Gordon Green (Red Oaks) will direct the series, and also exec-produce.
The series marks a promising addition to Apple TV’s increasingly versatile slate of original projects, which includes a morning show from Reese Witherspoon, a re-imagining of Spielberg anthology Amazing Stories, a space drama from Ronald D. Moore, a Damien Chazelle series, sci-fi drama See from Steven Knight and Francis Lawrence, and an M. Night Shyamalan psychological thriller.
