Trailer: Netflix opens up Nightbooks this September

“I’m going to need a story every night, or it’s the last thing you’ll ever do.” That’s the sound of Netflix opening up Nightbooks this September, and a new trailer gives us a first look at the spooky teen fantasy.
Based on the book by by JA White, the film follows Alex (Winslow Fegley), a boy obsessed with scary stories. When he is trapped by an evil witch (Krysten Ritter) in her magical apartment, he must tell her a scary story every night to stay alive. Having to forget his family, but focus on the witch, he finds unexpected support in another prisoner, Yasmin (Lidya Jewett), as they work together to find a way to escape.
The film is written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (The Curse of La Llorona) and directed by David Yarovesky (Brightburn, The Hive), with Sam Raimi among the producing team. The film premieres on Wednesday 15th September and, while it carries a PG certificate, expect scares not suitable for younger viewers – to give you an idea, here’s the trailer.

Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis are adapting Nightbooks for Netflix.
The children’s book, written by J.A. White, follows Alex, a boy obsessed with scary stories, who is trapped in a witch‘s modern, magical New York City apartment. His original hair-raising tales are the only thing keeping him safe as he desperately tries to find a way out of this twisted place.
Ghost House Pictures’ Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert together with MXN Entertainment’s Mason Novick and Michelle Knudsen are producing, while Romel Adam will be overseeing for Ghost House
Daughtry and Iaconis, whose CVs include Five Feet Apart and The Curse of La Llorona, are on scripting duties.
The project joins Netflix‘s growing slate of live action families movies featuring kids and teens. Other movies on the way include Tall Girl, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, and Hello, Universe.
