“Is a normal, boring shift too much to ask?” That’s the sound of a policeman’s night taking a turn for the weird in Netflix’s new thriller In the Shadow of the Moon.
In 1988, Philadelphia police officer Thomas Lockhart (Boyd Holbrook), hungry to become a detective, begins tracking a serial killer who mysteriously resurfaces every nine years. But when the killer’s crimes begin to defy all scientific explanation, Lock’s obsession with finding the truth threatens to destroy his career, his family, and possibly his sanity.
Directed by Jim Mickle and also starring Michael C. Hall and Cleopatra Coleman, the genre-blending psychological thriller examines the power of time, and how its passing can either bring us together or tear us apart.
The film premieres on Netflix on 27th September. Here’s the trailer:
In The Shadow Of The Moon is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.

Michael C. Hall and Boyd Holbrook will be In the Shadow of the Moon together for Netflix’s new original film.
Directed by king of indie pulp thrillers Jim Mickle, the film follows a Philly police officer who struggles with a lifelong obsession to track a mysterious serial killer whose crimes defy explanation. It’s written by Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock, with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Rian Cahill producing for Automatik, alongside Ben Pugh for 42, Linda Moran and Mickle for Nightshade. The exec producers are Fred Berger and Rory Aitken.
Boyd Holbrook (Logan, Narcos) was already attached to the project and has now been joined by Emmy nominee and Golden Globe/SAG winner Michael C. Hall, Cleopatra Coleman (The Last Man on Earth, White Famous) and Emmy Award nominee Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo (TV), Spider-Man: Homecoming).
Hall, who is most famous for his role in Dexter, needs no introduction to Mickle, after appearing in Cold in July. He is also no stranger to Netflix, after starring in missing-child thriller Safe, which premiered earlier this year. Holbrook, meanwhile, has made his name with Netflix, following a starring role in global smash hit Narcos.
Filming began on In the Shadow of the Moon last week, with the film set to debut worldwide in 2019.
