Marseille: First look teaser trailer released

Your first look at Netflix’s Marseille is here – and it’s mighty intriguing.
The teaser trailer for Netflix’s first French original series is as glossy as it gets (think high-end beer commercial) – a reminder of how high the streaming giant’s productions values have become. But more than anything, it’s a reminder of how much Marseille reminds everyone of House of Cards, from its piano soundtrack to its tale of political corruption.
The show stars Gerard Depardieu as Robert Taro, the titular city’s Mayor for the last 20 years, who prepares his last coup ahead of the municipal elections: pushing through the vote for the construction of a casino in the historic centre of the Marina. He’s even got his successor, Lucas Barrès, lined up.
But the latter’s all-consuming ambition and the secret interests of the city’s leaders, whether they come from its opulent villas or from the cities of the northern suburbs, impede the Mayor’s plans – and a power struggle begins.
Depardieu is joined by Benoît Magimel, Géraldine Pailhas, Nadia Farès, Stéphane Caillard, Jean-René Privat, Guillaume Arnault, Hedi Bouchenafa, Carolina Jurczak and Nassim Si Ahmed, with Dan Franck serving as writer and Executive Producer – alongside Florent Siri, director of the first four episodes. Thomas Gilou will direct the final four episodes.
Marseille is produced by Paris-based Federation Entertainment, led by Pascal Breton, producer of the hit French series Dolmen and Sous le Soleil.
The show will premiere globally on Netflix on Friday 5th May, the streaming giant announced at a press panel today – along with a bunch of other release dates.
