Netflix has renewed Alexa & Katie for Season 3.
The series follows two lifelong best friends on their journey as they face not only the challenges of high school but also the lingering complexities of Alexa’s battle with cancer.
Created by Heather Wordham, the multi-cam sitcom first premiered back 2018, starring Paris Berelc (Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force) and newcomer Isabel May. Within weeks, Netflix commissioned a sophomore run for the teen series, with Tiffani Thiessen (White Collar, Saved By The Bell) joining them as Lori, Alexa’s determined and protective mother. It was nominated at the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children’s Programme.
Now, after Season 2 debuted on Boxing Day last year, Netflix has confirmed that the show will once again return to our screens for a third season. Eddie Shin, Jolie Jenkins, Emery Kelly, Finn Carr and Jack Griffo will all reprise their roles alongside the lead trio, with Wordham also continuing as executive producer behind the camera.
Season 3 will pick up with Alex and Katie in their junior and senior years of high school, as the duo learn that together, they can get through anything. Season 3 will comprise 16 episodes, which will be released in two halves of eight episodes.

18th December 2018
Netflix is unwrapping a second season of Alexa & Katie this Boxing Day, and a new trailer gives us a first look at the show’s return.
The streaming giant’s first tween sitcom, Alexa & Katie follows the two best friends who face the usual trials of their freshman year of high school, as well as the fact that Alexa (Paris Berelc – Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force) is undergoing cancer treatment. Alex’s outgoing personality and enthusiasm for life never falter, especially with her loyal best friend Katie (newcomer Isabel May) by her side. At times, they’re left feeling like outsiders, during a period when what seems to matter most is fitting in. Tiffani Thiessen (White Collar, Saved By The Bell) also stars as Lori, Alexa’s determined and protective mother.
Season 2 picks up events as the duo become sophomores, with the cast including Emery Kelly, Jolie Jenkins, Eddie Shin, Finn Carr, Jack Griffo and Kerri Medders. Season 2 debuts on 26th December. Here’s the trailer:

Netflix has officially renewed Alexa & Katie for Season 2.
The streaming giant’s first tween sitcom, the show is a comedy about two best friends anticipating the start of their freshman year of high school. Despite the fact that Alexa (Paris Berelc – Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force) is undergoing cancer treatment, her outgoing personality and enthusiasm for life never falter, especially with her loyal best friend Katie (newcomer Isabel May) by her side. At times, they’re left feeling like outsiders, during a period when what seems to matter most is fitting in. Tiffani Thiessen (White Collar, Saved By The Bell) also stars as Lori, Alexa’s determined and protective mother.
Created and executive produced by Heather Wordham (Hannah Montana, Reba), the show’s star is Alexa and Katie’s friendship; whether it be at school, at home, or in the hospital, they are by each other’s side through thick and thin, serving as role models for modern-day female friendships.
The series premiered on 23rd March, but now, within weeks of its release, Netflix has ordered a sophomore year for the duo.
Trailer: Netflix’s Alexa & Katie arrives this month
13th March 2018
“Everybody’s gonna know me as the sick girl, and I’m so much more than that.” That’s Alexa in Netflix’s new original series, Alexa & Katie.
A teen comedy from the streaming giant, the series follows best friends Alexa (Paris Berelc – Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force) and Katie (newcomer Isabel May), who can’t wait for their first year of high school. But while that might sound like a conventional programme to add to your viewing schedule, this is a high school comedy with a difference, as from the off, it tackles a serious issue that affects us all at some point in our lives, whether directly or indirectly: cancer.
Alexa, who has been diagnosed with it, is dealing with the secret with Katie by her side, a friend who doesn’t forget that she’s a normal person who is more than her illness. Tiffani Thiessen (White Collar, Saved By The Bell) also stars as Lori, Alexa’s determined and protective mother. Created by Heather Wordham (Hannah Montana, Reba) with comedy veteran Matthew Carlson (Malcolm In The Middle, Samantha Who?) serving as showrunner, the show’s star is Alexa and Katie’s friendship; whether it be at school, at home, or in the hospital, they are by each other’s side through thick and thin, serving as role models for modern-day female friendships.
Alexa & Katie premieres on Friday 23rd March. Here’s the trailer:

Eddie Shin, Jolie Jenkins and Emery Kelly join Alexa & Katie
21st June 2017
Alexa & Katie is going to need some more ampersands.
The Netflix teen comedy series, which was commissioned earlier this year, will follow the two eponymous best friends, who are eagerly anticipating the start of their freshman year at school, but then find themselves facing a crisis that leaves them feeling like outsiders.
Paris Berelc (Lab Rats: Elite Force) will play Alexa, with newcomer Isabel May as her friend. A teen comedy isn’t a teen comedy, though, without a high school-sized cast, something that Alexa & Katie is rapidly assembling.
Eddie Shin (Westworld), Jolie Jenkins (Body Of Proof) and Emery Kelly (Best Friends Whenever) have all signed up for the multi-camera comedy.
Shin will play Dave, Alexa’s father, described by as “an easygoing airline pilot who supports his family in good times and challenging one”. He joins Saved by the Bell’s Tiffani Thiessen as Alexa’s mum. Jenkins will play Jennifer, Katie’s single mother, who is studying to be a psychologist. Kelly will play Lucas, a high school junior who has just become aware of his own good looks.
Shin will be familiar to fans of The Man In The High Castle and Westworld, while Kelly auditioned for The X Factor, leading to a string of guest gigs on Disney series. Jenkins is no stranger to Netflix, with the actress enjoying a recurring role on the streaming service’s recent reboot of sitcom One Day At A Time.
The 13-episode first season of Alexa & Katie will premiere in 2018.
Saved by the Bell’s Tiffani Thiessen joins Netflix’s teen sitcom
9th June 2017
Netflix is bracing to make its first entry into the teen sitcom arena – and it’s recruited a veteran of the genre to do it.
Tiffani Thiessen, of Saved by the Bell fame, has signed on to star in the streaming giant’s new series, Alexa & Katie.
The show will follow the two eponymous best friends, who are eagerly anticipating the start of their freshman year at school, but then find themselves facing a crisis that leaves them feeling like outsiders.
Paris Berelc (Lab Rats: Elite Force) will play Alexa, with newcomer Isabel May as her friend. While the presence of Disney XD star Berelc will be a significant boost to the show’s appeal among its target audience, Thiessen (aka. Kelly Kapowski in NBC’s 1990s classic) will be a welcome addition among older, more nostalgic audiences, who may well stream with their kids or younger relatives. She will play Lori, the determined and protective mother of one of the lead characters.
The show is created by Hannah Montana’s Heather Wordham, with Malcolm in the Middle’s Matthew Carlson serving as showrunner. Wordham and Carlson executive produce.
Netflix has ordered 13 episodes of the sitcom, with a premiere set for 2018.
Netflix orders high school comedy series Alexa & Katie
9th April 2017
Netflix has ordered a new high school comedy series, Alexa & Katie.
The streaming service has long been the home to a number of teen shows, such as Some Assembly Required and Project Mc2. While these are acquisitions (from Canada’s YTV and DreamWorks Animation’s AwesomenessTV) that are distributed as Netflix originals, the company is now moving into producing its own in-house sitcoms for tween viewers. The move places the streaming service into more direct competition with broadcasters such as Nickelodeon and Disney XD.
Indeed, Disney XD star Paris Berelc (Lab Rats: Elite Force) will star in the show as high school student Alexa. She’ll be joined by newcomer Isabel May as her best friend, Katie. Together, the pair eagerly anticipate the start of their freshman year at school, but then find themselves facing a crisis that leaves them feeling like outsiders.
The show is created by Hannah Montana’s Heather Wordham, with Malcolm in the Middle’s Matthew Carlson serving as showrunner. Wordham and Carlson executive produce.
Deadline reports that Netflix has ordered 13 episodes of the sitcom, which marks the streaming giant’s first multi-camera comedy series, joining a number of original projects from external studios, such as The Ranch and Fuller House.
The commission follows the release of 13 Reasons Why, Netflix’s latest high-profile original, and the debut last year of YouTube star Miranda Sings on Netflix, as the streaming service increasingly targets younger audiences.
