“You’ve been shot five times for your country, and you can’t even afford to send your kids to college.” That’s the starting point for Netflix’s new thriller, Triple Frontier, which flies into cinemas and onto the streaming service this March.
Directed by JC Chandor, the movie follows a group of friends who team up to take down a South American drug lord, putting their loyalties to the test. The Triple Frontier of the title? That’s the part of the border that sees Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay all meet – and where our team of former Special Forces operatives will presumably make their move in a heist against Gabriel Martin Lorea, a major cartel leader. The target: $75 million. But make no mistake: this isn’t a military operation.
The film stars Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal. You can see that impressive ensemble in action on 13th March. Here’s the new video:
Triple Frontier is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
Netflix unleashes first trailer for Triple Frontier
10th December 2018
The first trailer for Triple Frontier has landed, and Netflix’s thriller promises lots of hard-hitting action with multiple A-listers packing a major star punch.
Directed by JC Chandor (A Most Violent Year and All Is Lost), the drama was stuck in limbo for some time before Netflix picked up the project from Paramount. The streaming giant’s feature film boss Scott Stuber has since worked with Charles Roven (who produces alongside Alex Gartner and Andy Horwitz) and Atlas Entertainment to get the project back on track. The first step was mounting an impressive cast that includes Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, Garrett Hedlund and Adria Arjona.
It marks a reunion for Isaac and Chandor, following his starring role in A Most Violent Year. It also marks a reunion for Pascal and Netflix, following his turn in Narcos. The group will play friends who team up to take down a South American drug lord, putting their loyalties to the test. The Triple Frontier of the title? Triple Frontier will be released by Netflix in March 2019. Here’s the trailer:
JC Chandor’s Triple Frontier starts production at Netflix
20th March 2018
JC Chandor’s Triple Frontier is finally ready to start production at Netflix, reports Deadline.
The drama, from the director of A Most Violent Year and All Is Lost, has been struggling in limbo for a long time. It has been attached over the years to everyone from Kathryn Bigelow and Tom Hanks to Will Smith and Johnny Depp. It looked to be making headway at Paramount with Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy attached, but the project fell apart when both of them exited weeks before production was set to start.
Netflix then came on board, after Paramount (changing heads from former chief Brad Grey) got cold feet about an expensive political thriller that had just lost two A-list names. The streaming giant’s feature film boss Scott Stuber has since worked with Charles Roven (who produces alongside Alex Gartner and Andy Horwitz) and Atlas Entertainment to get the project back on track.
That led to Ben Affleck boarding the project, intending to star alongside Casey Affleck and Mahershala Ali, fresh from their Oscar-winning turns in Manchester By the Sea and Moonlight. Ben Affleck, though, was set back by a trip to rehab over his sobriety issues. Ali, as a result, exited the film due to a scheduling conflict. Now, a post-rehab Affleck is ready to move ahead, and the project has regained momentum. He has been joined by Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, Garrett Hedlund and Adria Arjona.
It marks a reunion for Isaac and Chandor, following his starring role in A Most Violent Year. While the actor was unable to participate in the film as originally scheduled, a window opened for the production’s current incarnation. He plays one of five friends who team up to take down a South American drug lord, putting their loyalties to the test.
Filming on Triple Frontier begins in Oahu on 26th March, with shooting also set to take place in Colombia and California.
