Jon Heder’s Ghost Team gets free Google Play release

Ghost Team, starting Jon Heder, is available to watch online in the UK for free.
The indie comedy, directed by Oliver Irving, who co-wrote the script with Peter Warren, arrives on VOD just as the remake of Ghostbusters hits cinemas. With a cast that includes the Napoleon Dynamite star, Justin Long and BoJack Horseman’s Amy Sedaris, it’s an ensemble with no less comedy kudos than Paul Feig’s blockbuster, but a much more low-key approach to the subject.
The film follows Louis, a regular guy who runs a small print-and-copy shop in a Long Island strip mall. He drinks beer with his best buddy, Stan. He hunts for evidence that ghosts exist as an escape from the drudgery of his daily routine and a reminder that there may be more to life than he knows.
So when a customer walks into his print shop and mentions possible paranormal activity at an abandoned farm outside of town, Louis sees a chance to indulge his hobby for real. With the help of his screw-up nephew, an overly-vigilant mall cop, a hack cable-access psychic, a whip-smart beautician and a van filled with amateur equipment, Louis is determined to catch some ghosts on film. But poltergeists are the least of what the team finds in the abandoned McIntosh estate.
Before it hits US cinemas on 12th August, the film has been given an exclusive release on Google Play. The film is now available to watch online through the site for free for a limited time.
This is not the first time Google has teamed up with distributors for such a release: earlier this year, the site released animated comedy Bling online for free. Given the quality of that film, though, hopefully Ghost Team will fare much better.
