Describe a man as having “an affinity for purple clothing” and you might not think he’s much to be afraid of. Add in the ability to control anyone at his whim, though, and suddenly he becomes quite scary.
Meet Kilgrave, a guy who combines both things in one David-Tennant shaped package. The villain, who will appear in Marvel’s upcoming Jessica Jones series, is played by the Doctor Who star and, judging by our glimpse of him in the trailer released last week, is really quite intimidating.
Kilgrave, we discover, is someone from Jessica’s past, someone who once made her do unspeakable things with her superpowers. No wonder when we join her at the start of Season 1, she’s retired from her hero days and is making a living as a detective in New York, as she tries to put her life back together.
Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter plays Jones and is joined on-screen by Carrie-Anne Moss, Rachael Taylor and Mike Colter as Luke Cage, who will then have his own solo series next year. Indeed, the show marks the latest in a string of original Netflix series in conjunction with Marvel. Unlike Daredevil, which was released earlier this year, Jessica has a female showrunner in Melissa Rosenberg, who Exec Produces alongside Liz Friedman (Elementary) and Marvel’s Head of TV, Jeph Loeb.
Now, hot on the heels of both the teaser and a photo of Kilgrave’s impressive hair, Netflix has released a new poster for the show featuring Tennant’s purple-tastic villain. Here it is:
All 13 episodes of the series are released on Friday 20th November.
