Jamie Foxx is heading to Amazon Studios for new film The Burial.
The two-hander drama, which is based on a New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr, tells the true story of how a bankrupt funeral home owner decides to sue a rival businessman over a handshake deal gone wrong, prompting the owner to hire a flamboyant attorney to handle the case.
Foxx will produce and star in the project, reports Deadline, with Maggie Betts (Novitiate, The Carrier) on board to direct and Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife, Quills) penning the script.
The film is produced by Amazon Studios in collaboration with Bobby Shriver Inc and Double Nickel Entertainment, with Bobby Shriver and Double Nickel’s Adam Richman and Jenette Kahn on board, alongside producer Datari Turner.
Foxx is no stranger to streaming, having built up a relationship with Netflix in the past year. As well as starring in its blockbuster Project Power, he is set to star and produce Netflix film They Killed Tyrone, a vampire thriller for the streamer called Day Shift and a series called Dad Stop Embarrassing Me, inspired by his relationship with his daughter.
