ITV 2 will air Love Island: Australia this summer to fill the channel’s reality TV void.
The dating series has become one of ITV’s biggest hits in recent years, with the channel even doubling up to air a second instance of the villa-set romance contest at the start of the year. But since then, the world has changed, and with the coronavirus pandemic shutting down productions, ITV announced in May that it would postpone Love Island Season 7 until 2021.
Now, it’s found another show to fill the gap: Love Island, the Australian edition. Starting later this month and airing nightly on ITV 2, Love Island: Australia is hosted by Sophie Monk and narrated by Eoghan McDermott. The series sees a bunch of sizzling Aussie singles embark on the ultimate summer of love, leaving the Australian winter behind them, as they take up residence in a luxury villa in Mallorca.
Playing the definitive game of love, the Aussie Islanders will get to know each other in the hope of finding romance. But as new bombshells arrive on the Island, which couples will stand the test of time and make it all the way to the final, and have a chance of bagging the $50,000 cash prize?
The acquisition of the show’s Australian cousin comes as Netflix continues its push into reality TV territory, attempting to emulate Love Island’s success with Too Hot to Handle and Love Is Blind. Here’s the trailer for Love Island: Australia:
