Harry Styles and Lily James are headed to Amazon Studios for My Policeman.
The film, written by Oscar-nominee Ron Nyswaner, is based on the 2012 novel by Bethan Roberts.
It is in 1950s’ Brighton that Marion first catches sight of Tom. He teaches her to swim in the shadow of the pier and Marion is smitten – determined her love will be enough for them both. A few years later in Brighton Museum Patrick meets Tom. Patrick is besotted with Tom and opens his eyes to a glamorous, sophisticated new world. Tom is their policeman, and in this age it is safer for him to marry Marion. The two lovers must share him, until one of them breaks and three lives are destroyed.
Tony and Olivier Award winner Michael Grandage will direct the untitled picture, which has been picked up by Amazon Studios. Deadline reports that Amazon came out on top in a competitive bidding situation, securing a deal with Berlanti Schechter Productions.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Robbie Rogers will produce along with Cora Palfrey and Philip Herd at Independent Film Company and MGC.
In front of the camera, meanwhile, two big names are in negotiations to star: Harry Styles and Lily James. James can next be seen in Netflix’s Rebecca, directed by Ben Wheatley, while former One Direction member (and Dunkirk star) Styles is having one heck of a week, bagging the role hot on the heels of joining Don’t Worry Darling, alongside Florence Pugh.
Production on the film is expected to start next summer.
