HarmonTown the movie is now available to watch online in the UK. The movie, directed by Neil Berkeley (Beauty Is Embarrassing), is a film about the tour about the podcast from Community creator Dan Harmon.
HarmonTown happened after the showrunner was, in his own words, “unceremoniously dumbed” from the NBC TV show. And so he took off on a cross-country tour of his comedy podcast with co-host Jeff B. Davis. Berkeley was invited along for the ride and filmed the whole thing, from the dark times post-dismissal to the laughs along the way.
The movie has now been released internationally on VOD, while Community and Harmon have since been reunited, then separated after it was cancelled, and reunited once again, when Yahoo! Screen resurrected the show for an exclusive online season. To say it’s been a bumpy ride for Harmon is an understatement.
Pitched as “much more than a comedy-tour documentary”, the film promises to uncover Harmon’s public persona and reveal his complex character and his equally complex personal relationships.
“Maybe my silence on the issue of a hypothetical sixth season seems frustration,” the 41 year old wrote on the HarmonTown blog when the cancellation was first announced. “I was thinking I could stay quiet because there’s too much to say and anything can become a headline because of the timing, and I am so very sick of clicking on my dumb fat name and seeing my dumb fat face in that dumb photo where I’m pointing at the camera and my hands are inexplicably tiny despite being closer to the camera.”
But for fans of Community who want to see Dan’s dumb fat name and dumb fat face in video – as well as audio – form, HarmonTown the movie is now here, to prove his thesis that getting fired is the best thing that will ever happen to you. Maybe.
