Halt and Catch Fire Season 4 will return to UK screens on Amazon Prime Video this August.
AMC’s series, which began in the 1980s, captures the rise of the PC era in the 1980s, focusing on four main characters attempting to innovate against the changing backdrop of technology. The series was created by showrunners Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers and is executive produced by Cantwell, Rogers and Gran Via Productions’ Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad) and Melissa Bernstein (Rectify).
The show returned in summer 2016 for an superb third season, which earned a wave of critical acclaim – including praise from us.
“‘This is a really cool idea,’ says Cameron in the finale of Halt and Catch Fire Season 3. And in that single sentence, she sums up everything about the show that has made it get better and better – and, in this two-part finale, even better still,” we wrote of the Season 3 finale. “The show closes out its third run at a level that’s on a par with the very best TV of 2016. This isn’t just a cool idea. It’s one of the coolest ideas you’ve seen this year… It’s the fact that they can so seamlessly blend that side of the show with its human drama that makes AMC’s series such high-class entertainment. It’s one of the most elegantly and efficiently written shows on the small screen.”
On the back of that positive reception, AMC announced that it had renewed the show for a fourth and final season, bringing our characters into the 1990s.
The season will see our cast of characters navigating the early days of the Internet and web browsers, pondering their destinies both personally and professionally, while the competitive nature of the tech world continues to complicate and affect their relationships.
Those players are, of course, Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis) and Donna Clark (Kerry Bishé), co-founders of online gaming company Mutiny, Donna’s husband, Gordon (Scoot McNairy), Gordon’s former business partner, Joe McMillan (Lee Pace), and tech veteran John Bosworth (Toby Huss).
“It has been our great privilege to watch the world of Halt and Catch Fire expand and mature,” Cantwell and Rogers said in a statement, when the show was officially renewed. “In this fourth and final season, we are excited to end the show on its own terms and to give our story, these characters, and our fans the conclusion they so richly deserve.”
Season 4 will premiere with a double-bill in the US on Saturday 19th August, with episodes arriving exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the UK within 24 hours of their broadcast. That means that Halt and Catch Fire Season 4 has a UK air date of Sunday 20th August, with Episodes 1 and 2 both available to watch online on Amazon – with the remaining eight episodes then arriving on the streaming service on Sunday each week.
A subscription to Amazon Prime Video costs £5.99 a month – or, if you want next-day delivery on Amazon products too, is included with a £79 annual Amazon Prime membership. Seasons 1 to 3 are already available to stream.
