Google Chromecast to show weather and news?

Google Chromecast may be developed to show the weather and news on your TV.
Google’s streaming dongle, which launched in the UK last month, allows you to “cast” content from apps on your mobile device – including Netflix and BBC iPlayer – onto your TV set. One Reddit user analysed the latest update to the dongle and found that it contains components ready to display information such as the local weather on a dashboard-like display.
At present, when Chromecast is active but not being used to stream content, it displays a slideshow of pre-selected images and a clock. The code, though, suggests that Google will soon introduce a function for users to choose their own photos, as well as other modifications to the standby screen.
“We’re always experimenting with new features, but have nothing new to announce,” a Google spokesperson told the Guardian.
Google Chromecast is now available from UK retailers for £30. We’ll bring you our verdict on the device this weekend.
