Doctor Who will officially return on New Year’s Day 2021, with the Revolution of the Daleks seeing in the new year.

The seasonal special will see the return of one of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies, as The Doctor is locked away in a high-security alien prison. Isolated, alone, with no hope of escape, she is far from her best friends, Yaz, Ryan and Graham, who have to pick up their lives on Earth without her. But it’s not easy. Old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek. How can you fight a Dalek, without the Doctor?

Enter John Barrowman, who reprises his role of Captain Jack after appearing in Fugitive of the Judoon in Season 12. Now, a trailer gives us a look at him back in that trenchcoat, while also revealing the Daleks’ new plan, which promises a timely new twist courtesy of Chris Noth (reprising his role as nasty businessman Jack Robertson from Season 11’s Arachnids in the UK). Harriet Walter will also guest-star.

The episode will air on 1st January at a yet to be confirmed time. Here’s the new video:

 

Captain Jack to return for Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks

Captain Jack Harkness is heading back to our screens this Christmas for the festive outing Revolution of the Daleks.

The seasonal special will see the return of one of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies, as The Doctor is locked away in a high-security alien prison. Isolated, alone, with no hope of escape, she is far from her best friends, Yaz, Ryan and Graham, who have to pick up their lives on Earth without her. But it’s not easy. Old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek. How can you fight a Dalek, without the Doctor?

The answer perhaps comes in the form of an old friend, as John Barrowman has been confirmed as stepping into Jack’s coat one more time. The cheeky Captain left viewers reeling in Season 12 episode Fugitive of the Judoon, when he made a brief surprise appearance with a stark warning for Yaz, Ryan and Graham to pass on to the Doctor before disappearing. Now, Jack will be on hand to help the fam as they unearth a disturbing Dalek plan.

Barrowman says: “Putting on Jack’s coat and setting foot back on the set of Doctor Who was just like going back home. It’s always thrilling to play Captain Jack. He’s a character very close to my heart who changed my life, and to know the fans love him as much as I do makes his return even sweeter. I hope everyone enjoys Jack’s Heroic adventure with Thirteen.”

Chris Chibnall, Executive Producer, said: “A Doctor Who Festive Special means treats galore, and there’s no bigger treat than the return of John Barrowman to Doctor Who, for an epic and emotional feature-length episode. If anyone can blast away the sheer rubbishness of 2020, it’s Captain Jack. Daleks beware!”

Revolution of the Daleks: First look at Doctor Who Christmas special

The BBC has dropped the first pictures from Doctor Who’s upcoming Christmas special, Revolution of the Daleks.

The festive outing will see the return of one of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies, as The Doctor is locked away in a high-security alien prison. Isolated, alone, with no hope of escape, she is far from her best friends, Yaz, Ryan and Graham, who have to pick up their lives on Earth without her. But it’s not easy. Old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek. How can you fight a Dalek, without the Doctor?

The pictures were unveiled during a virtual New York Comic-Con panel for Doctor Who, which featured panelists Jodie Whittaker (the Doctor), Mandip Gill (Yaz) and Bradley Walsh (Graham). The first photo gives a glimpse of the Doctor’s incarceration. The second photo hints at Yaz, Ryan and Graham’s life back in Sheffield without the Doctor, while her whereabouts are unbeknownst to them.

Doctor Who will return for festive special

Doctor Who will return for a festive special later this year, the BBC has confirmed.

With the fate of the Doctor seemingly hanging in the balance following the climactic ending to Season 12, the Beeb has reassured fans that Doctor Who will next return to screens for a special near the end of 2020, titled Revolution of the Daleks.

After Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord faced off against the Master and the Cybermen this season, the one-off special will see the return of another of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies – the Daleks.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall says: “We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year. (I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you!). There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.”

Charlotte Moore, Director BBC Content, adds: “I can’t wait for the Doctor to go into battle with the ultimate enemy in this year’s Daleks festive special.”

Alongside Whittaker, Tosin Cole, Bradley Walsh and Mandip Gill will return for the special to reprise their roles as Ryan, Graham and Yaz.
