Dennis Quaid joins Joe Exotic series
6th June 2021
Dennis Quaid is the latest star to join the Joe Exotic TV series in the works at NBC’s Peacock.
Adapted from the Wondery podcast of the same name, Joe Exotic follows Carole Baskin, a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit. She sets out to shut him down, which sparks a rivalry between the two, leading to dangerous results.
The series is written and producers by Dan Frankel, as part of his overall deal with UCP, with Wondery’s Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy and Aaron Hart all exec-producing and Justin Tipping directing the first four episodes. It has already assembled a starry cast, with Kate McKinnon leading the cast (in addition to exec-producing) as Carole and John Cameron Mitchell playing Joe Exotic. Now, Dennis Quad (The Day After Tomorrow) has joined the cast as Rick Kirkham, an American journalist and producer. Also cast are Brian Van Holt as John Reinke, Sam Keeley as John Finlay and Natt Wolff as Travis Maldonado.
The series is one of several projects inspired by the success of Netflix’s Tiger King docuseries, including a Nic Cage-starring project snapped up by Amazon Studios. With NBC owned by Comcast, which also owns Sky TV, expect Joe Exotic to turn up on our screens on Sky Atlantic.
