We promise to promise you everything is the tagline for Netflix’s The Politician, and the first trailer for the series is very promising indeed.

Jessica Lange joins Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series The Politician
7th December 2018
Jessica Lange is the latest impressive name to join the cast for The Politician, Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix series.
The hour-long comedy series, created by the American Horror Story writer and longtime collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, follows a wealthy Santa Barbarian politician, with each season charting a different political race he is involved in. Tony winner Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen) is already attached to play the lead, with the series expected to feature musical numbers performed by his protagonist.
Platt has also been involved with the casting for the show, with Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow previously reported to be in talks to co-star. Zoey Deutch and Lucy Boynton have already signed on to star, alongside Laura Dreyfuss, Rahne Jones, and (most recently) Dylan McDermott and Mad Men’s January Jones.
Now, Deadline reports that Murphy’s frequent collaborator and muse Jessica Lange will also appear in the series. A veteran of both Feud and American Horror Story, we don’t know the character she will play yet, but with Murphy at the helm and Lange’s seal of approval, you can expect something special is on the way.
Zoey Deutch and Lucy Boynton join Ryan Murphy’s The Politician
17th July 2018
Zoey Deutch and Lucy Boynton have joined the cast of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series The Politician.
Now, though, we have our first official casting additions, with Zoey Deutch and Lucy Boynton leading a slew of regular supporting members in the ensemble.
Zoey Deutch is no stranger to Netflix and can be currently be seen starring in the streaming service’s romantic comedy Set It Up and recently starred in Netflix’s teen movie Before I Fall.
Lucy Boynton made her breakthrough as the female lead in John Carney’s Sing Street and will be seen starring opposite Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody as Mary Austin, Freddie Mercury’s muse and companion. She, too, is no stranger to Netflix, having appeared in Lisa Rubin’s cancelled series Gypsy, opposite Naomi Watts.
The pair are joined by Laura Dreyfuss, who has just ended her run as the young female lead role of “Zoe Murphy” in the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, and is best known to TV viewers as Madison McCarthy in the sixth season of Glee. Also cast is Rahne Jones, who is making her television debut.
Netflix nabs Ryan Murphy series The Politician
6th February 2018
Netflix has nabbed the rights to Ryan Murphy’s new TV series, The Politician.
The hour-long comedy series is created by the American Horror Story writer and longtime collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. Details about the show are, as is typical with Murphy, shrouded in mystery, but Deadline reports that it is set to follow a wealthy Santa Barbarian politician, with each season following a different political race he is involved in. Murphy and Falchuk have reportedly been working on the script for a year, with Glee co-creator Brennan then coming on board.
Tony winner Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen) is already attached to star, with the series thought to feature musical numbers performed by his protagonist. Platt has also been involved with the casting for the show, with Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow in talks to co-star. Two Oscar winners in a political musical from the winning-streak creator of Glee, Feud and American Horror Story? The show has unsurprisingly been a hot ticket, with Amazon and Hulu both lining up to purchase the rights. After some highly competitive bidding situation, though, Netflix emerged on top in what Deadline reports may be the biggest TV package sale of 2018 so far.
It marks the second deal between Netflix and a Murphy production, with upcoming One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel Ratched recently acquired by the streaming giant. It hails from Fox 21 TV Studios under Murphy’s overall deal at 20th Century Fox TV. Its packaging was guided by Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden, a longtime Murphy collaborator who oversees the studio.
