Dad’s Army led streaming on BritBox UK over the Christmas period, the streaming service has revealed.
A joint venture between the BBC and ITV, the subscription platform brings together British TV box sets from recent years and decades past. For the festive season, it has been offering 3 months for £2.99 to new subscribers (until 10th January 2021), while its line-up has expanded to include new originals, such as Spitting Image, and a growing library of older exclusives, including Press Gang and The Prisoner as well as its flagship acquisition of Doctor Who Classic.
From Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day, Dad’s Army – which was added to the service on 24th December – has proven the most popular title on the service. Subscribers streamed the 78 episode collection en masse in their first three days on the site, outstripping Spitting Image and Only Fools and Horses, which were the other most popular choices over the festive period.
Looking back over 2020, BritBox’s most-watched series of the year was Spitting Image, which will return to the platform for a second run this autumn. Love Island, Broadchurch, Doctor Who Classic and Only Fools and Horses complete the tally of the top five most popular shows.
Will Harrison, BritBox UK’s Managing Director commented: “We are very pleased that our subscribers are cosying up with Captain Mainwaring and the platoon… There is nothing better than a bit of Dad’s Army especially at this time of year!”
