Apple TV+ has renewed Criminal Record for a second season.
From Paul Rutman, the crime drama follows two detectives in a tug of war over a historic murder conviction in contemporary London. An anonymous phone call draws the two into a confrontation over the old case – one a young woman in the early stages of her career, the other a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy. Capaldi plays Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Jumbo plays Detective Sergeant June Lenker.
“Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo are riveting to watch in this dark, gripping crime thriller,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
The show debuted in January, with the finale landing in February. Now, half a year later, Apple has announced that Capaldi and Jumbo will return to reprise their roles of two brilliant detectives clashing in another complex investigation.
Season 2 will find June the senior officer on the scene when a political rally is attacked by far-right counter-protesters. The violent clash leaves a young man dead and June, consumed with guilt, is desperate to bring the unknown killer to justice. It seems as if her best hope is Daniel, now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence. He may have the answers she needs, but to get his help, she will have to accept a dangerous bargain.
