Dexter is heading back to our screens, as Paramount+ has assembled the cast for a new prequel series.
Dexter: Original Sin will star Christian Slater, Patrick Gibson and Molly Brown and introduce the world once again to Dexter Morgan.
Dexter was originally played by Michael C Hall in Showtimes series, which began in 2016 and ran for eight seasons until 2013. After a further limited series in 2021, the franchise has got some fresh blood in its veins, with the new show taking place 15 years before we first met Dexter.
The 10-part thriller will chronicle TV’s most notorious serial killer… in training. Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone) will play the titular role of Dexter Morgan, while Slater (Mr Robot) will play Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father and homicide detective. They will be joined by Molly Brown (Senior Year) as Dexter’s younger sister, Debra Morgan.
Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter (Gibson) transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Slater, who recently starred in TV’s Dr Death, will next be seen in Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice. Gibson starred in The OA can most recently be seen in Shadow and Bone. Brown’s credits include Billions and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and she will soon be seen in the film Mooch.
Behind the camera, Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) will return as showrunner and executive producer.
