Bristol Old Vic will be live-streaming its production of Wuthering Heights this week.
Adapted and directed by Emma Rice, the co-production between National Theatre, Wise Children, Bristol Old Vic and York Theatre Royal had its debut last month and runs until 6th November. For those not in Bristol or unable to get tickets, however, the theatre is once again turning to the web to bring the Yorkshire Moors to living rooms across the country.
Based on the Emily Brontë classic, Wuthering Heights follows Heathcliff, who, after being rescued from the Liverpool docks as a child, is adopted by the Earnshaws and taken to live at the titular estate. He finds a kindred spirit in Catherine Earnshaw and a fierce love ignites. When forced apart, a brutal chain of events is unleashed.
Shot through with music, dance, passion and hope, Rice’s production transforms Brontë’s masterpiece into a powerful theatrical experience. Lucy McCormick (Post Popular) and Ash Hunter (Hamilton) lead the company of performers and musicians. with the cast including Sam Archer, Nandi Bhebhe, Mirabelle Gremaud, TJ Holmes and Craig Johnson.
The live broadcasts are at 7pm on Thursday 4th, Friday 5th and Saturday 6th November, with a 1pm matinee on the Saturday. The runtime is three hours, including a 15-minute interval, and tickets start at £20. The show is streamed live via TicketCo, with 6 cameras used to capture the show, so you have to start watching at the start time, or you will miss the beginning. Captions and audio-described recordings will be made available separately from 26th to 28th November.
