Bohemian Rhapsody is the champion of the UK’s Official Film Chart, becoming the fastest-selling digital download movie ever released in the country.
The Queen biopic picked up four Oscars at the weekend and, in the same week, went on to take the Number 1 spot on the Film Chart – the only weekly chart to count both physical disc and digital download sales.
On downloads alone – the film will be available to rent online on the same day it’s released on DVD – Bohemian Rhapsody more than doubled the sales of this week’s Number 2. Indeed, the movie sold almost 265,000 digital copies in its first eight days, narrowly beating the record set by Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, which racked up just under 253,000 digital downloads in its first eight days last Summer.
Climbing three places to return to its peak, spy caper Johnny English Strikes Again is at Number 2, ahead of last week’s chart-topper A Star Is Born, which slides to Number 3. First Man has also taken one giant leap back into the Top 10, hopping seven to Number 4, following its release on disc, while Venom has slipped by two places to the fifth spot and Goosebumps 2 has risen by one place into Number 6.
This week’s highest new entry is Smallfoot (7), featuring Channing Tatum and a star-studded voice cast. At Number 8 is a second brand new entry, Hunter Killer, which stars Gerard Butler as a US submarine captain on a mission to rescue the Russian president. The Greatest Showman (9) spends its 17th consecutive week in the Top 10. Finally, the House With A Clock In Its Walls completes the Top 10, ticking over another week in the chart.
