Dwight Yoakam joins Billy Bob Thornton in Amazon’s Goliath
16th June 2016
Dwight Yoakam has joined Billy Bob Thornton in the cast for Amazon’s original series, Goliath.
The show, formerly called Trial, stars Oscar winners Thornton and William Hurt, along with Olivia Thirlby (Juno), Maria Bello (Prisoners) and Molly Parker (House of Cards). It chronicles the ultimate David vs. Goliath battle fought in the 21st century American legal system, following down-and-out lawyer Billy McBride (Thornton) as he seeks redemption. His one shot depends on getting justice in a legal system where truth has become a commodity, and the scales of justice have never been more heavily weighed toward the rich and powerful.
Yoakam will play Wendell Corey, who heads the giant aerospace company defended by powerful law firm Cooperman McBride, Borns Tech. Yoakam is a 21-time nominated, multiple GRAMMY Award winner, and has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, including 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum albums. His casting, though, is actually a reunion for he and Thornton: the two previously acted together in the film Slingblade. Yoakam has also appeared in TV series such as Under the Dome and Wilfred, as well as movies including Panic Room, Crank, and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.
Goliath will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in the UK this Autumn. The series is written by David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) and Jonathan Shapiro (The Practice); executive produced by Kelley, Shapiro and Ross Fineman (Lights Out) and Larry Trilling (Parenthood).
