Jennifer Lawrence and Adam McKay are teaming up for Bad Bloods, a new film for Apple TV+.
The drama will chronicle the rise and fall Elizabeth Holmes, CEO of blood-testing start-up Theranos. Lawrence will take the lead role and McKay will write and direct. The project was set up at Legendary back in 2016, following a heated bidding war, but hasn’t progressed since. Now Apple Studios – where McKay’s Hyperobject Industries has a first look deal for scripted features – has boarded the project as a coproducer.
Holmes was at one point the youngest and richest self-made billionaire, until former WSJ investigative reporter John Carreyrou exposed her lies. The film is based on his book, Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Start Up. The deal comes just as Holmes is on trial on charges of defrauding investors and patients – and as McKay and Lawrence are readying to release satirical disaster movie Don’t Look Up on Netflix.
The film will also be produced by Lawrence and her Excellent Cadaver producing partner Justine Polsky, and Hyperobject Industries’ McKay and Kevin Messick. Will Ferrell is also producing through Gary Sanchez Productions.
