Apple TV+ has renewed Schmigadoon! for a second season.
The comedy series, created by Cinco Paul and executive produced by Lorne Michaels, is a parody of iconic musicals. Starring Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, it follows a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship when they discover a magical town in which everyone is living in a studio musical from the 1940s. They then discover that they can’t leave until they find “true love”.
“This affectionate send-up of golden-age musicals is a fun, charming number,” we wrote in our review when the series debuted last summer. Now, Apple has confirmed that a second run is on the way, with new original musical numbers from Cinco Paul. Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Martin Short and Aaron Tveit are all set to return, with Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page joining the cast for Season 2.
Season 2 will find Josh (Key) and Melissa (Strong) in Schmicago, the world of 60s and 70s musicals.
The show joins a growing number of Apple Originals recently renewed for a second season, including Severance, Pachinko, The Afterparty and Slow Horses.
