“I just feel like we should be happier…” That’s the sound of Schmigadoon! returning to Apple TV+, and a new trailer gives us a closer look at the Chicago-inspired second act – plus a salty compere in the shape of Tituss Burgess.
The hit musical comedy series, co-created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, is a parody of iconic musicals. Starring Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, it follows a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship when they discover a magical town in which everyone is living in a studio musical from the 1940s. They then discover that they can’t leave until they find “true love”.
Season 2 will find Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) in Schmicago, the reimagined world of 60s and 70s musicals. It will include new original musical numbers from Paul – who serves as showrunner and wrote all the original songs for the series – as well as returning stars Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski and Aaron Tvei.
You can see them in action on 7th April, when the first two of six episodes arrive on Apple TV+, followed by episodes weekly until the finale on 5th May.
