Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively will reunite for a sequel to A Simple Favor.
Directed by Paul Feig, the 2018 film followed Stephanie, a widowed, single mother who works as a vlogger in Connecticut. When her best friend mysteriously disappears one day, Stephanie launches her own investigation by digging into the woman’s past – and finds a few surprises along the way.
“Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick shine in this fun noir thriller,” we wrote in our review.
The film went on to earn more than $97 million at the worldwide box office. Now, Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack are all set to reprise their roles in A Simple Favor 2, with Paul Feig also returning to direct. The sequel is a co-production between Amazon’s MGM Studios and Lionsgate, and the script, which is based on characters by Darcy Bell, is written by Jessica Sharzer, who wrote the first film, with revisions by Laeta Kalogridis and Paul Feig.
Feigco Entertainment’s Paul Feig and Laura Fischer will produce, with Jessica Sharzer executive producing. The film will see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.
The film is targeting a spring start to production and will be available to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
