Angels of the North is returning to BBC Three for a new season, which will follow the hairdressing salon through the coronavirus pandemic.
The coronavirus outbreak halted production on Season 2 of the fly-on-the-wall show, but now, Sammyjo and her ‘Mamager’ Bev will be back streaming on BBC Three to see how the salon and staff have coped.
Sammyjo and the girls have kept in touch over the spring/early summer lockdown period, and while the super salon might have been closed, Bev and Sammyjo have still been grinding from home. The series return will see more of Sammyjo’s love life, Bev epitomising hashtag #BeMoreBev, and, that Kallie definitely hasn’t changed when it comes to her eating habits.
With the cameras rolling again they follow the team as they announce some big changes in the salon, preparing for a July reopening. PPE and Covid19 restrictions mean the girls have to get to grips with the new rules and regulations, as well as brushing up on their hair extension fitting skills after months on furlough… and who better to practice on than each other?
Rachel Ashdown, Entertainment Commissioner for BBC Three, says: “Because Angels Of The North features real people in a real community, every work-based conversation and situation is relatable to the audience – no matter where you work or what you do. As the salon reopens there’s lots of shocks and challenges in store, but also with the unique Geordie humour there’s lots of laughs. It’s the perfect binge watch for what has been a trying 2020.”
Aisling O’Connor, Head of TV Commissioning for England, adds: “Angels Of The North is back to cheer us all up. We are delighted to welcome back this series about a young female entrepreneur and her all female staff. It encompasses so much of what the BBC is proud to offer younger audiences. We’re thrilled to showcase the fabulous North East of England to the rest of the UK and we look forward to seeing what else is to come from these amazing ladies.”
Angels Of The North is a co-commission for BBC Three and BBC England, working with independent production company Twentysix03. This co-commission is part of BBC England’s ongoing ambition to uncover original, untold stories, finding exciting new voices and talent, and to work with independent production companies outside of London.
The series will premiere on BBC iPlayer at 6am on 1st November.
