Andy Samberg heads to Apple for untitled sci-fi

Andy Samberg is reuniting with Palm Springs writer Andy Siara for a new sci-fi project at Apple Studios, THR reports.
Apple has been steadily growing a star-studded array of feature films in the past year, releasing Tom Hanks war thriller Greyhound, Sofia Coppola’s On the Rocks and Cartoon Saloon’s latest animation, Wolfwalkers. Now, it’s tapping into the awards buzz surrounding Hulu’s comedy Palm Springs – soon to arrive on Amazon Prime Video in the UK – by tapping Samberg and Siara for the secretive project.
Siara will write the show and exec-produce, while Samberg will star and produce. Also on board are Fargo creator Noah Hawley and Ben Stiller, who will produce through Hawley’s 26 Keys banner and Stiller’s Red Hour banner.
What we do know is that the film is based on an original idea by BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, and that with Hawley and Stiller’s star power attached, the project was attractive enough to spark a competitive situation. Apple Studios, though, emerged with the project under its belt, finalising the deal over the weekend.
Stiller’s Red Hour is no stranger to Apple TV+, with new sci-fi drama Severance in the works for the streaming service, while Samberg will soon be seen in Disney+’s Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
