Amazon has snapped up the exclusive UK rights to Hulu’s The Path.
Starring Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan and Hugh Dancy, the drama was commissioned by the US streaming site back in March 2015, before premiering online earlier this year.
Exec produced by Jason Katims, Michelle Lee and creator Jessica Goldberg, the show follows a crisis of faith within a fictional cult religion, called Meyerism. Paul, returning to the small screen following Breaking Bad, plays Eddie Lane, who has committed his life to Meyerism, but after discovering the cult’s founder in a comatose state before finishing his instructions for salvation, Eddie’s faith becomes rocked.
Eddie seeks solace in a Meyerism defector, Alison Kemp (Sarah Jones, Sons of Anarchy), who holds The Movement responsible for her husband’s mysterious death. When followers of The Movement are greeted with temptation, including the Lane’s teenage son Hawk, secrets and betrayal begin to surface with severe repercussions.
A second season of the drama has already been ordered. Now, Amazon has acquired the show exclusively for Prime Video in the UK, with all 10 episodes of the programme available to watch online now. It joins a growing number of US exclusives, from Black Sails and American Gods to Preacher, Into the Badlands and, most recently acquired, financial tech thriller Startup, starring Martin Freeman and Adam Brody.
