Amazon cancels Lore after two seasons

Amazon has cancelled Lore after two seasons.
From Executive Producers Ben Silverman (The Office), Howard T. Owens (Killing Kennedy), Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead), Brett-Patrick Jenkins (Face Off), Jon Halperin and Mark Mannucci (A Year in Space), the horror series is based on the podcast of the same name. It explores the real-life frightening and disturbing tales that give rise to modern-day myths and legends, combining re-enactments, animation and narration.
Launched in March 2015 by Aaron Mahnke, the Lore podcast has generated a massive audience, was named “Best of” in 2015 and 2016 by Apple and was listed as one of the “15 podcasts you need to hear in 2016” by Entertainment Weekly. The TV series premiered in 2017 just in time for Halloween, before being renewed the following February. Despite improved reviews for its sophomore run, though, Amazon has now decided not to renewed the programme for any more seasons.
It joins a number of other shows cancelled by Amazon, including The Romanoffs, Forever, Too Old to Die Young and Patriot. The cancellation also comes as Amazon prepares to throw its weight behind major new fantasy and sci-fi projects, including The Expanse (resurrected and now renewed for Season 5), Carnival Row (already renewed for Season 2) and its high-profile show based on The Lord of the Rings.
Lore Season 2 gets trailer and October release date
23rd July 2018
Amazon has unveiled the first trailer for Lore Season 2, as well as its October release date.
From Executive Producers Ben Silverman (The Office), Howard T. Owens (Killing Kennedy), Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead), Brett-Patrick Jenkins (Face Off), Jon Halperin and Mark Mannucci (A Year in Space), the horror series explores the real-life frightening and disturbing tales that give rise to modern-day myths and legends. Season 2 will feature new tales from the podcast the show is based on, as well as original stories not yet available in podcast form. The hybrid series will continue to feature narration, archive footage and animation alongside filmed segments.
“The scope is much larger but the stories are much more intimate,” said Hurd, who was on Amazon’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con to unveil the trailer and poster for the series’ sophomore run. “It is scarier, it is really scarier.”
The claim is certainly backed up by the talent involved with the second season, including showrunner Sean Crouch (The Exorcist), and the additions of Alicia Witt and Steven Berkoff to the cast.
The series will return to Amazon Prime Video on Friday 19th October, just over a year after Season 1 premiered, and just in time for Halloween. Here’s the trailer – or read on below for the disturbing new poster.
Lore is available to watch online on Amazon Prime Instant Video, as part of a £5.99 monthly subscription.
Amazon orders Season 2 of Lore
27th February 2018
Amazon has ordered a second season of horror anthology Lore. Adapted from Aaron Mahnke’s award-winning podcast of the same name, the show explores the real-life frightening and disturbing tales that give rise to modern-day myths and legends.
Launched in March 2015 by Aaron Mahnke, the Lore podcast has generated a massive audience, was named “Best of” in 2015 and 2016 by Apple and was listed as one of the “15 podcasts you need to hear in 2016” by Entertainment Weekly. The TV show hails from Executive Producers Ben Silverman (The Office), Howard T. Owens (Killing Kennedy), Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead), Brett-Patrick Jenkins (Face Off), Jon Halperin and Mark Mannucci (A Year in Space).
Season 2 will feature new tales from the podcast, as well as original stories not yet available in podcast form, and will star new cast members. The hybrid series will continue to feature narration, archive footage and animation to complement the filmed segments.
“Customers loved the first series of Lore for its unique blend of narrative and documentary storytelling and we’re excited to give them another series of this suspenseful hybrid show,” says Heather Schuster, Head of Unscripted, Amazon Originals. “Sean brings great experience in the supernatural genre, and we’re excited for him to help us tell even more frightening and visually captivating stories.”
“As a fan of documentaries and horror, Lore resonates with me on so many levels,” adds Hurd. “Season 2 is shaping up to be scarier and even more compelling and unnerving than our first one!”
The series was met with mixed reaction, with our own review praising it for being “stuffed with interesting observations that stand apart from the wave of fictional horror TV currently on our screens”, despite the “occasionally uneven pacing” and re-enactments that don’t always work.
Season 2 will see a slight change behind the scenes, though, with Sean Crouch (The Exorcist, Numb3rs) taking over as showrunner.
“With Sean Crouch at the helm, Lore is set to be scarier than ever,” say Silverman and Owens. “In series two, we will explore global, real-life horror stories that make this series unlike anything else on television. We are thrilled to be back on Prime Video.”
Production will begin on the new run in April.
